Travel for participants from abroad

In planning your journey participants might find it helpful to visit where information is shown on discounted fares on scheduled airlines.

The information that follows on this page relates to travel to and from UK airports. Further details on UK travel can be found on the UK travel page.

From Heathrow Airport

Take the London Underground from Heathrow to Leicester Square on the Piccadilly Line. Change and take the Northern Line to Euston Station then take the British Rail service from Euston to Windermere via Oxenholme, Preston or Lancaster. Journey time from Heathrow to Euston will be about 50 minutes.

There is also the "Heathrow Express" rail service that runs from Heathrow to Paddington. The train departs every 15 minutes with a journey time of approximately 15 minutes.

From Gatwick Airport

There are express trains direct from Gatwick to Victoria Station in London. These leave approximately every 15 minutes with a journey time of about 30 minutes. From Victoria Station take the London Underground Victoria Line to Euston then take the British Rail service from Euston to Windermere via Oxenholme. Journey time from Victoria to Euston Station will be approximately 15 minutes.

From Manchester "Ringway" Airport

There are some direct rail services to Windermere from the airport terminal with a journey time of approximately 2 hours. Other services are available to and from the airport but these may not be direct.

Although the funds are not able to pay for the above you may find it convenient to use this service on the basis that the return rail fare can be claimed towards the cost.  Any bookings must be made direct with the company by the passenger,  Journey time is approximately 2 hours and prices, depending on the time of travel, are around GBP170 return.
