Awards for final year PhD students in Optoelectronics

The Trustees of the Rank Prize Funds have decided to offer a number of awards, each worth £5,000, for final year PhD students in UK universities which have a major commitment to teaching and research in optoelectronics, including visual science.  The scheme is intended to support students whose studies have been disrupted by the restrictions imposed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and who would not otherwise have the financial resources to be able to complete their studies in a timely manner. They should not be in receipt of similar funding from another source.

Each university is invited to nominate up to two (maximum) final year optoelectronics (including visual science) PhD students to receive an award. No more than two applications may be submitted per university and the expectation is that it is highly unlikely that more than one will be funded. The two applicants should be from different departments or schools of the university and if two applications are submitted they will need to be rank-ordered by the university.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Friday 31st July 2020. We anticipate that payments will be made early in September 2020.

Please note that we can only consider applications submitted by universities. Applications received directly from students cannot be considered.
