Seeing Science

The Rank Prize Funds Photography Competition 2021

What does research in the fields of Optoelectronics, Visual Science, and Nutrition look like?

Can photography help us see it differently?

The Rank Prize Funds is launching a photography competition. We are inviting students and academics in Optoelectronics (including Visual Science) and Nutrition to submit photographs which reflect their experience of research. We're looking for images of real-life research, daily life in the lab or on fieldwork (or, these days, at home), and ones that give us a fresh perspective on scientific research. Be as creative as you like!

Winners will receive a £100 Amazon voucher.

Closing Date: All entries to be received by midnight on Monday 5th April 2021. All winners will be announced after this date.

Early Bird Entry: Enter by midnight on Sunday 28th February 2021 and your photo has a chance of featuring on our new website when it launches in the spring - excellent exposure for your work.

Photographs can be entered into one of three categories: Discovery, Community, or Curiosity. There will be a Nutrition winner and an Optoelectronics winner for each category, making six winners in total.

Discovery: Images that represent the process of scientific discovery, whether that means a favourite piece of equipment, a real-life experiment or finding, or a 'light-bulb' moment

Community: Images which reflect scientific collaboration, from life in the lab and experiences of fieldwork and conferences to the online scientific community

Curiosity: Images that get the viewer asking questions. We want to see pictures of science which pique the curiosity of the viewer, by way of fascinating subject matter, unusual compositions, or intriguing perspectives

You may submit up to six images in total across the categories.
